Manuel Cardoso’s Music in Madrid

Tomorrow, December 3rd, the Spanish vocal group Gradualia, directed by Simón Andueza, will present a concert at the church of the Mercedarias Góngoras (Calle Luís Góngora, 5) in Madrid featuring music by Portuguese composer Manuel Cardoso, this year commemorating 500 years of his birth.

The programme includes Cardoso’s responsory Velum templi and the well-known Lamentations for Maundy Thursday Vau. Et egressus est, the two funerary motets Non mortui and Sitivit anima mea, and his masterpiece, the six-voice Missa pro Defunctis.

I’m very happy that the group is using the edition I prepared for Edições MPMP, yet to be publish, of the beautiful Lamentation Vau. Et egressus est. Hopefully, I will also be using several of the concert recordings for publication on the online version of the Portuguese classical music magazine Glosas.
