Paper at SocyHume Congress, September 24

I will be reading a paper tomorrow, during the last day of the SocyHume International Congress “From Sociability Spaces to Cultural Heritage. Comparative Perspectives of the Southern Hemispheres from the 18th to 21st Centuries”, organized by CIDEHUS and the University of Évora, in the College of Espírito Santo.

My paper focuses the bourgeois musical sociabilities in the azorean city of Horta (Faial Island) during the second half of the nineteenth century. In the center of this social world were the various orchestras established in the city that played both in the theatre and private social events and, mostly, in the religious services at the Igreja Matriz and other churches’s festivities.
