Another excerpt from the concert with Ensemble Eborensis last June 10th in the church of Aguiar, where we performed a programme from composers of Évora Cathedral from the last decades of the sixteenth century.

Again, like the Caph I shared a couple of days ago, it comes from Manuel Cardoso’s Lamentations for Maundy Thursday. Lamed the letter which introduces the section “O vos omnes qui transitis per viam…”, before the ending section “Jerusalem convertere…” of the third lesson (Jod. Manum suam).

This is one of the various lamentations for Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday Cardoso published in his Livro de varios motetes. One of the few for the uncommon formation SSAT, which I was very happy to have suited our formation perfectly so we build our recent programme around this fine work.
