Ensemble Organum in Royaumont

A promotional video of Ensemble Organum in the Cistercian abbey of Royaumont, where director Marcel Pérès talks about the programme, made of organum for the feast of St Louis, founder of this Abbey. He talks about the presence of organum in the various daily offices and its place among plainchant and the improvisational character of the singing.

I have been a follower of Pérès’s and Ensemble Organum’s unorthodox work for quite some time, their rendition of Machaut’s Notre Dame Mass being among the CDs I first listened. Really great to be able to watch these new video productions of the project.
