This is the first edition of motets by Portuguese composer Manuel Cardoso (1566-1650) one of our stile antico composers of the first half of the seventeenth century. This the 21st number of the “polyphonia” series, devoted to sixteenth and seventeenth-century Portuguese vocal polyphony, published by Movimento Patrimonial pela Música Portuguesa.
This number includes two motets Erat Jesus ejiciens and Ecce mulier Chananea, both for four voices, by Manuel Cardoso as said before. They both come from the Livro de varios motetes… printed by the Craesbeeck house in 1648, one of the fine colections of this genre in Portuguese polyphony.
