Plainchant • Kyrie

Video of the Kyrie from the well-known missa orbis factor performed by the Schola of Ensemble Eborensis in this project’s debut concert at the church of the Cistercian monastery of S. Bento de Cástris during the II Residência Cisterciense, 19 September 2014.

In this concert, the Schola premiered several chant rubrics that later featured the CD “A reforma tridentina e a música no silêncio claustral: O mosteiro de S. Bento de Cástris”, released last June 16. The project with the Schola of Ensemble Eborensis is part of the research project “Orfeus – A reforma tridentina e a música no silêncio claustral: O mosteiro de S. Bento de Cástris” (EXPL/EPH-PAT/2253/2013) developed by CIDEHUS, in which I have been working during the last year.

In this recording the Schola of Ensemble Eborensis is (from right to left): Lara Rainho, Ana Lopes, Cláudia Anjos and Ana Lúcia Carvalho.

Luís, This sounds very much like the Sarum version – which we happen to be doing on Sunday to match the Western Wind Gloria of Taverner!

    1. That is quite interesting!
This is from a Cistercian source… I found a concordance with another mid-16th-century source from Flanders (now at Canada).
