Edition of the antiphon Vidi aquam, for four voices (SATB), by Portuguese composer Duarte Lobo (c.1566-1646) I prepared for Edições MPMP. The work appears in Lobo’s 1621 Liber Missarum, printed in Antwerp by Baltazar Moreto at the Officina Plantinia. This antiphon replaces during Eastertide (from Easter to Pentecost) the other antiphon Asperges me (which I also edited) for the sprinkling of the water at the beginning of the Mass. The work follows the traditional sequence of this kind of antiphons with the antiphon, psalm 117 and the doxology (repeating the antiphon at the end).
The Vidi aquam was published with number 26 in the Polyphonia series of Portuguese polyphonic music of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries edited by the Movimento Patrimonial pela Música Portuguesa.
