The first number of the “Polyphonia” series, featuring Portuguese polyphony until 1700, is made up of two works I edited. This number comprises the “famous” Alleluia and the Missa Ferialis, both for four voices, by Portuguese composer Manuel Mendes (c.1547-1605). The Alleluia was a well-known work, with sources in Portugal, Spain and Mexico. The Missa Ferialis (Kyrie, Sanctus and Agnus Dei) is probably the only transcription (with ficta added) from the now illegible manuscript held at Évora Library.
